Won the neighborhood contest

Well, even though I didn't get to do as much as I was hoping to this year... got the following email this morning:

Beacon Hill Holiday Lights Contest

Beacon Hill reinstated its Annual Holiday Lights Contest this year. The results were phenomenal! Beacon Hill looks so fabulous this holiday season. Our judges had a very difficult time awarding the top three winners because there were so many worthy of prizes!

Congratulations to our winners!!

1st Place
John (Mike) Napurano at 508 Spinnaker with the lights set to music

2nd Place
Steve & Lisa Flynn at 1333 Lighthouse with the beautiful display of white lights set to the theme of the contest "Let it Snow"

3rd Place
Kevin & Angela Dickerson at 1327 Constellation with the lights lining the roofline and windows to look like a storybook gingerbread house

Congrats to all those that participated!  It's great to see the holiday spirit alive and well in Beacon Hill!  Be sure and visit the other contestants as well!

Show is live!

Finally got the problems with the show editor and some of the sequences figured out and got the show up tonight.  The sequences need some work, but it will do for now.  Already had a few cars stop by and watch the show... so hopefully they enjoyed it!

Next year will be alot better :)

Oh.. also got my voiceovers from The Demented Elf too!  Only using 2 of them in the show at the moment.

Time ran out

Well, didn't get to do everything I wanted, and having a problem with the LOR Show Editor not playing some of my sequences properly.  So for now, we are still broadcasting Christmas music, and the lights are on, but mostly static.

I have a loop of some effects going on in the light show, but they are not currently running to the music.  I will try and work some more on this next week, but for now.... alot of the ground work is done for a bigger and better show next year :)

Mini Tree's

Another little project for this year was adding some mini-tree's to the display.  I stacked two 54" tomato cages (to give strength) and zip tied them together.  These were then wrapped with 2-3 sets of mini lights each.   Here are some pictures.  They look great at night, and only cost around $10 each to make.

Our Listen To sign

I forgot to post this up previously.  I built a back lit "Listen To" sign for our display.  Pictures are here.  I will update the pictures with a shot of the sign in the yard soon as well.  I got away pretty cheap, as total cost was around $60 or so.

I used a cedar 4x4 post and a cedar 2x4.  The sign face is a design I did in Photoshop and had printed on translucent vinyl and applied to clear lexan.  The sign back is 1/4" foam board which I hot glue and caulked the rope light to.   Also used 1/2" EMT (electrical conduit) for the stakes to support the sign in the ground.

LOR Order arrived

Yup... LOR Order arrived today, so I got to dig in and assemble everything.  All channels worked right the first time, which is always good.  The 2 controllers are mounted on the wall, and wired into the garage PC.

Still waiting on my order of 100 extension cords and still have to pickup a spool or 2 of 16/2 wire to do the custom lengths.  Once that's complete I can finally hook up all the channels and work on some more programming.  All the lights I have up have been on, just static for now :)

LOR Order Shipped - Finally starting

Just got confirmation and tracking number from LOR that my order shipped!  Hopefully I'll have the boards by early next week.

Since I'm starting so late this year, and I have an injured shoulder from a little motorcycle incident, it doesn't look like I'm going to get to do everything I would have liked this year.  I'm going to start putting up our lights and the mini-trees today.  I will probably wait on putting our the leaping lights (only 2 sets done right now) until the controllers arrive.

I'm also pretty far behind on sequencing songs.... so I'll try and get more of that done also.

Progress updates

Well, we are getting a bit of a late start, so we will not being doing as big of a display this year as I was hoping for. LOR (Light-O-Rama) was about 2 weeks out on shipping when I placed the order before Thansgiving, so with any luck the controllers will ship out late this coming week.  I have already started sequencing a few songs, but have alot of work to do with our lights. Due to my motorcycle mishap, and my injured shoulder, etc we just today started putting up our Christmas stuff. ...

Napurano lights?

What is NapuranoLights.com?  Just our family web site for our holiday light displays.

We've been adding a bit more to our Christmas display each year the past few years, and back in 2005 I really wanted to get into the computerized and synchronized displays but just couldn't justify it.

This year I finally bit the bullet and ordered 2 of the 16-channel Light-O-Rama controllers (still waiting for their arrival!).   This blog will help document our progress with our displays, etc.

Blog is up!

Finally got the Napurano Lights Blog setup.  I will update this with information on changes, progress, etc on our displays.
